This work is based on a bit of Vermont history, namely the Merino wool boom of the early 19th century. The hopes and dreams of hundreds of farmers were pinned on the thick fleece of these incredible sheep. As the boom went bust, Vermont was left with a chewed up economy and a chewed up landscape. Today it's hard to see how so many of the state's forested hills once lay bare, but open pasture was once a much more common sight.
